I Am (Marjorie's) Granddaughter...

Quintessential Me

Recently ran across this, taken senior year of college:

Now, I'm pretty sure this is the purest version of myself in photographed form, even if that might not be my natural hair color. Oh. I fooled you? It's really dark brown. So dark that growing up people thought it was black, which always annoyed me.

So, who am I?

I am:
  • First and foremost a Christian
  • Active
  • Full of laughter
  • Creative
  • Expressive
  • Fan of bright colors
  • Freckled
  • Female
  • Tomboy
  • Lover of the outdoors
  • Confident

I think she's tickling her nose with them on purpose... :)

I am about to try this, within the week:
http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/makeyogurtforbaby.htm

I am concerned about making a huge mess, and, well, not doing so well in the actual creation of yogurt. It claims that it is supposedly easy to do. We'll just have to see.

I asked my MIL to help me. Mostly just so I can do something with her. We don't really do much together. We do a lot with the whole family together, but not me and her. I don't know whether that bothers me or not, I just realized it yesterday and asked her if she wanted to join in. She said her mom used to make yogurt and she would love to join us. So now it's going to be three generations of women trying to create a dairy product for my little girl to eat. This should prove to be fun, if not hilarious. :) It might be worth filming.

The Fastest Thing Around...

CRAWLING-
Pros:
  • longer self-entertainment
  • less carrying
  • cute
Cons:
  • red knees
  • more danger
  • more frustration
  • requires more supervision
  • diving from laps to the floor
  • spitting up and crawling through it
  • tossing diapers/toys about the floor
  • when did you learn to open drawers??

Let them be little...

She's growing up so fast!

I'm going to make some observations before I forget this part of her life. Everything keeps changing so fast!

She loves:
  • Making strange noises.
  • Mommy's hair. (I ought to buy a wig and put it in her crib.)
  • Touching different textures- fabrics, smooth legs, restaurant receipts, Granddaddy's mustache etc...
  • Music- both to dance and fall asleep to
  • Patting things like a drum
  • Mommy. (I guess because she spends all her time with me.)
  • Water in all forms- shower, bathtub, pool, etc...
  • Adult electronics- cellphone, laptop, computer, etc...
  • Raspberries in her armpit.

She hates:
  • Having clothes put on her.
  • Seeing Mommy leave a room.
  • Cereal (texture?)

Three words that describe her:
  • Social
  • Curious
  • Active

As of Sept 2, at 7 months old, she:
  • Has two bottom teeth.
  • Can crawl in a very awkward manner. (one knee, one foot, both hands- Think Igor.)
  • Says "dada" as a word for just about everything.
  • Whispers to her toys and talks loudly to people.
  • Understands object permanence.
  • Says "Mama" (frustratedly grumbles) when she is upset and wants Mommy.
  • Weighs 17 lbs 5.5 oz.
  • Is 28 inches long.
  • Wakes up about twice every night around 2:30 and 6 A.M.
  • Eats pureed veggies and fruit like a champ.
  • Munches on pieces of other small mushy foods.
  • Nurses about 7 times a day.

Today:
  • She has a cold. :( Poor baby.
  • She is wearing a white onesie with a rose embroidered on it.
  • She is running errands with Mommy.

On Distant Shores

I have toiled for countless years and ever felt the cost, and I've been burned by this world's cold, like leaves beneath the frost. On my knees I've crawled to You, bleeding myself dry. But the price of life is more, than I could ever buy.

And off of the blocks I was headstrong and proud, at the front of the line for the card-carrying high-browed, with both eyes fastened tight, yet unscarred from the fight, running at full tilt my sword pulled from its hilt. It's funny how these things can slip away, our frail deeds, the last will wave goodbye. It's funny how the hope will bleed away the citadels we build and fortify. Goodbye!

Night came and I broke my stride. I swallowed hard but never cried. When grace was easy to forget, I'd denounce the hypocrites. Casting first stones. Killing my own.

Then You would unscale my blind eyes and I stood battered but more wise. Fighting to accelerate. Shaking free from crippling weight. With resilience unsurpassed, I crawled my way to you at last. And on my knees, I wept at your feet. I finally believed that You still love me.
